The Tarot deck consists of 78 cards, each with its imagery, symbolism, and story. The 22 Major Arcana cards represent life’s karmic and spiritual lessons, while the 56 Minor Arcana cards reflect our daily trials and tribulations.
Some may argue that Tarot cards are nothing more than ink on paper. However, after reading Tarot cards every day for over twenty years, I’ve discovered the following:
Tarot is our life’s storybook, a mirror to our soul, and the key to our inner wisdom.
The seventy-eight Tarot cards contain every spiritual lesson we encounter in our lives. And when we consult the Tarot, we will be shown the specific lessons we must learn and master to live an inspired life. It’s similar to holding up a mirror to yourself to access your subconscious mind and tap into the wisdom (and answers) that we all have.
Tarot is ideal for self-development, decision-making, goal manifestation, coaching others, business planning, meditation, and so on. Simply ask a question, pull a card, and immerse yourself in the imagery of the card to gain instant access to your inner wisdom and the answer you seek.
While many people believe that Tarot cards can predict the future, making predictions is not the purpose of Tarot cards.
In Tarot, fortune-telling is out and intuition is in, especially if you want to create your ideal future and achieve your goals.
The most effective way to read the Tarot is to use it to access your intuition and inner wisdom. The imagery in the cards allows you to instantly access your subconscious mind and intuition. And it is from this place of inner strength and wisdom that you can learn how to make positive changes now to manifest your goals and dreams in the future.
Learning the basics of tarot reading takes time, patience, intuition, and practice. To get you started, here are some fundamental steps:
Each tarot deck is different, but most decks have 22 Major Arcana cards and 56 Minor Arcana cards. The Major Arcana cards symbolize major life events and themes, whilst the Minor Arcana cards reflect daily events and emotions. Spend some time looking over the deck and get a sense of the various cards and their meanings.
Each tarot card has a specific meaning that is associated with it. Some decks come with a guidebook explaining each card’s meaning, or you can do some research online or consult our extensive library of tutorials and studies for more info about the symbolism and meanings of the cards.
Shuffling the tarot deck mixes up the cards and allows you to draw cards at random. A tarot deck can be shuffled in a variety of ways, but one basic method is to hold the deck in your dominant hand and use your thumb to slide the cards back and forth, shuffling them like a deck of playing cards. After you’ve shuffled the deck, divide it into three piles and shuffle the piles back together.
A spread is a card layout that helps structure a tarot reading. There are many different spreads to choose from, ranging from simple three-card spreads to more complex spreads with multiple cards. Some common spreads include the Celtic Cross, the Past-Present-Future spread, and the Yes or No spread.
Once you have chosen a spread, draw the cards from the deck and lay them out in the chosen spread. As you draw each card, consider what the card might mean concerning the question or issue you are exploring.
Each tarot card has a distinct meaning, but how the cards interact with one another and the general energy of the spread are equally significant. Consider the meaning of each card and how it fits into the larger framework of the spread. To interpret the cards, you may wish to consult a guidebook, engage with a tarot reader or consult our extensive library of tutorials and studies.
Learning the basics of tarot reading is a process that takes time and practice. With patience and an open mind, you can develop your unique approach to reading the tarot and gain insight into the various aspects of your life.
